The Golden Years begins in NYC in the early 1900’s and travels through the music and stories of Broadway legends up until today.
New York at the turn of the century was emerging as the new metropolis, the city was a celebration of growth; the tallest skyscrapers, the largest suspension bridge, and the longest subway in the world were being built. There was a huge sense of pride to be an American in this time and place. Immigrants were pouring in from all over the world. Possibility and Music were in the air........
Talia Refeld began her performing career at 19 in musical theater appearing as Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar, in the National Tours of Showboat and Camelot, and 16 months of My Fair Lady with Rex Harrison as the youngest cast member playing his upstairs maid in her Broadway debut. But the majority of her musical life has been spent on the Opera and Concert Stages of the world with Mozart, Verdi and Beethoven. She became a visiting Professor of Voice and Performance at Chapman University in California in 2005/06.
‚The Golden Years of Broadway’ is a very personal, authentic look at Broadway with songs by composers such as Gershwin, Porter, Kern, Weill, Loewe and Sondheim, many of who had their roots in Europe. Their great legacy of songs known and unknown form the core of the program. Miss Refeld’s narration surprises, informs and amuses and her warmth and her passion for this genre make for an unforgettable evening.
